4 Season Giving Tree

We continue to develop programs to meet the ongoing needs of families in our community.

A requirement of our holiday program is that all families MUST be referred by Montgomery County Public School Pupil Personnel Workers or Counselors. This program provides the local community: neighborhood associations, book clubs, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, etc.—with the opportunity to make the holidays more meaningful for needy families by matching them with those fortunate enough to give new toys, clothes, needed items, etc. Donors have the option to either provide monetary support (tax-deductible) or they can directly receive the wish list of the matched family.

In the fall, we initiate a back-to-school drive, inviting families in need to request gently-used or new items their children need for school in the fall. Continuous needs are posted in real-time in our Facebook group. Please join this group to stay up to date on the assistance we need with new requests.

We communicate with all our donors through our three Facebook groups, one in the 20878, one in Frederick County and one for the Good Counsel community. Get immediate news of the needs of local families by joining these Facebook groups.

The goal of the Matching Program is to directly match giving families to every family in need, with a focus on upcycling gently-used clothing and toys in order to meet the needs of local families on a continuing basis.

For those families in need who have been referred by MCPS, we provide gift cards using community donations. Gift cards are targeted for last-minute referrals, expanding the scope of disadvantaged families we can support. Due to language barriers or difficult life circumstances, some families are not able to provide wish lists. The gift card program allows 4 SEASON GIVING TREE to provide support and families to select their own essentials.

Newly referred families from MCPS staff are each provided a one-time gift card of $250 to Target, as long as funds are available from community donations. This allows families in need to purchase some essential items at critical times. Families must be referred by MCPS staff (counselors, Pupil Personnel Workers, Parent Community Coordinators, etc.) as being in critical need and in need of emergency support.

Miscellaneous assistance is provided when high-need, critical/emergency requests are made by MCPS staff. This support is requested for needs that greatly impact the well-being of the family and when no other organizations can provide immediate support. In these cases, the board reviews and approves the request to help, and determinations are made upon request only.
